Singapore's productivity growth has averaged just 1% in the last decade. Reports has also found that productivity is falling in the sectors of manufacturing, construction, hotels and restaurants, business services and wholesale and retail trade; which, taken together, account for 60% of the economy and employ two-third of the workforce.
Innovative transformation on productivity is critical to achieving the target of two to three per cent productivity growth in Singapore. THINK Innovation! - a series of conferences aim to address this challenge and provide a learning and knowledge-sharing platform focusing on productivity and innovation for Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMETs).
Each conference comprises a half-day Executive Seminar and a two-day Master Class.

A.T. Kearney reported that the combined retail value of online sales in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam was estimated to be US$7 billion in 2013. Singapore accounted for the largest share at 25%, while Malaysia and Indonesia each accounted for 20% of total sales.
Mr. Teo Eng Cheong, Chief Executive Officer of IE Singapore highlighted that, “e-Commerce is a strategic tool to help small medium enterprises (“SMEs”) expand globally... will help SMEs lower barriers of entry and reduce operational costs, while accessing global markets quickly. By embracing offline-to-online channels, companies can diversify or complement their distribution channels.”
As e-commerce explodes, the pressure is on for companies to delight online customers, and tempt new ones to fill electronic shopping carts. Much of a merchant's success will depend on whether it develops a fulfilment operation that delivers exactly what customers want.

In the last few years we have seen an increase in the levels of risk and volatility faced by enterprises. Some recent examples include the unrest in the Middle East, inflation in China, the Japanese tsunami disruption, the Thailand floods, oil price volatility, product recalls and huge fluctuations in financial markets.
This requires business executives to systematically address business risks both the known-unknown operational risks as well as the unknown-unknown extreme risks. Unfortunately, there is very little that can be done after a disaster has occurred. Companies therefore need to devote more attention to planning their operations so they can better respond to mega disasters as well as more mundane operational problems. This 2-day master class will examine: the latest thinking in supply chain management, the development of efficient, responsive and resilient supply chain, and how relevant concepts and tools can be applied within the organization. This includes for example proven ways to analyze the different sources of risks, assess the impact on the business and build various mitigation measures into the business strategy. A mix of lectures, case discussions and applications will be used for the master class. The course objectives are to develop modeling skills and to provide new concepts and problem-solving tools, applicable to the design and planning of supply chains and in particular to the ability of the organization to manage supply chain risk. |

16 November 2010 0900 hr - 1700hr Cliftons at The Finexis Building (Location map) |
Numerous factors require companies to analyze their supply chain strategies more frequently. These can include mergers and acquisitions, accelerated product introductions, volatile currency rates and offshore manufacturing.Globalization and complexity in the supply chain makes it further difficult to identify the true drivers of inventory. And today, environmental goals and fuel costs top most lists. To stay ahead, companies must constantly strive to reduce supply chain costs and improve customer service while trying to maximize profits and plan for the unexpected
This master class will cover an overview of network planning and inventory optimization management, that can help companies make better decisions faster, addressing global supply chain design and sourcing strategies, transportation planning, and the optimal flow and placement of inventory across the end-to-end supply chain.
