On 21 April 2026, students from the National University of Singapore, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Centre for Infectious Disease Emergency Response (CIDER)‘s MSc in Infectious Disease Emergencies (IDE5004) participated in a high-intensity serious game session: “Command & Control: An Acute Hospital Operations and Logistics During A Surge Simulation Game”.
Led by Za’aba Abdul Rahim, The Logistics Institute – Asia Pacific this 1.5-hour workshop pushed participants into the critical role of “Head of Operations” during an infectious disease outbreak. This session moved beyond theoretical knowledge, immersing students in a 2D digital environment where they had to design a hospital layout and manage resources in real-time.
This specialized serious game, developed by National University of Singapore, The Logistics Institute – Asia Pacific, is designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and the intense reality of a public health crisis.
