In 1995 Singapore’s top economic planning agency, the Economic Development Board (EDB) initiated the idea of developing local Singaporean domestic capabilities in logistics and supply chain management. The rationale was to develop the nation’s knowledge and expertise in the burgeoning logistics, supply chain management and transportation services industry, an important economic pillar of Singapore. The decision was made to collaborate and learn from the best in the world in logistics, supply chain management and industrial systems engineering.

The Logistics Institute – Asia Pacific (TLI – Asia Pacific) in the National University of Singapore (NUS) was established in 1998 as collaboration in logistics research and education between NUS and the Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) in the United States of America. The Double Master Program (DMP) was introduced in 2001 and has since graduated over 200 students from Singapore, China, India, Pakistan, Norway, Greece, Taiwan, USA, the ASEAN countries and among others. Over the years, besides educational excellence, TLI–Asia Pacific has also developed research expertise in the areas of Collaborative Urban Logistics, Supply Chain Risks Management and Supply Chain Analytics, which are contemporary issues relevant to supply chain practices in the Asia Pacific region.

TLI- Asia Pacific ⁄ DMP has been the winner of the "Best Educational Course Provider" Award at the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards from 2003 – 2013 & was also Winner of the "Education & Training" category at the Supply Chain Asia Awards between 2009 – 2011 & 2014.

With rising local Singaporean educational and research capabilities, an executive decision was made by EDB and NUS to phase out its Double Master Program in Supply Chain Management gradually. NUS will stop admitting DMP students in Academic Year 2015 ⁄ 2016. Individuals keen to pursue a post-graduate degree in Supply Chain Management are encouraged to enrol in the increasingly popular Master of Science in Supply Chain Management or MSc (SCM), which is highly sought after by the logistics and supply chain industry.
