Invitation from Griffith Business School, Griffith University, Australia

24 Sep 2024

Hybrid

We were honoured to be invited by Associate Professor Yong Wu, Director of Research, Department of Business Strategy and Innovation, Griffith Business School, Griffith University on Tuesday, 24th September 2024, to facilitate a humanitarian serious game session, Emergency Relief Mission, for his 3157IBA Supply Chain Innovation and Optimisation class.
The session, facilitated by our game master, Za'aba Abdul Rahim, successfully included participation from both in-class and online students, connected via Microsoft Teams. The game provides students with a risk-free environment where they can practice their acquired knowledge and apply it to a simulated real-world disaster crisis scenario, without incurring the potentially large and expensive setup costs to recreate a disaster.
Through the game, students explored the potential applications of decision support tools in disaster preparedness and response, gaining insights into the risks and forecasting challenges associated with humanitarian asset and resource management. They also examined the possibilities of anticipatory action to bridge the gap between long-term disaster risk reduction efforts and immediate humanitarian crisis responses.
At the conclusion of the session, we collected valuable feedback and insights from the students regarding their learning experiences and key takeaways from the game.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Assoc Prof Yong Wu for this opportunity to engage with his students and looking forward to more future collaborations together.

02 Sep 2024

NUS

Every semester, we conduct a game session or two for our students. And this semester is no different. On 2nd Sep 2024, the students of LI5101 were introduced to our humanitarian game - Emergency Relief Mission.
The 1.5-hour game session was facilitated by our Game Master, Za'aba Abdul Rahim, along with Tan Kia Meng, Kalvin and Prof Nugroho A. Pujowidianto, and led by Prof. Dr. Robert de Souza.
The game’s objective is to let players experience the complexity and uncertainty of disaster preparedness and response, focusing on asset allocation and management.
The game integrates decision support tools such as Control Tower and Digital Twin, along with humanitarian aid and disaster response concepts like the anticipatory action, to assist players in making informed decisions.
The mission: To save as many lives as possible by evacuating survivors in a timely manner and ensuring a continuous and uninterrupted supply of the right relief items when and where they are needed.
